  • We’ll send you a New Patient Form to fill in before the consultation, so there’s no rush, you can meet some of our team and relax when you arrive
  • We’ll start by taking X-rays and photos of your teeth
  • You’ll next meet the Orthodontist, who’ll do an assessment and take measurements. They’ll discuss the recommended treatment plan with you and answer any questions you have
  • We’ll then schedule your next appointment to start treatment.
  • You’ll then chat with our Treatment Coordinator to discuss finance options and you’ll likely have more questions
How long will I have to wear braces for?
The amount of time it takes to treat your smile with braces depends on three factors:
  • Early treatment: Visiting us early allows the Dr Hammond and the OTDX team to monitor the growth of the jaw and recommend further orthodontic treatment if it becomes necessary.
  • What needs correction: The amount of treatment needed to correct the problem will determine how long the process takes. Different patients react to treatments differently.
  • You: Your willingness to use the appliances the orthodontist prescribes plays a major role in the length of time it takes to complete your treatment. Taking care of your braces and appliances also helps to shorten the length of your treatment.

Eating with braces:
Don’t worry, you can still eat most of your favourite foods. However, you’ll need to take extra care to avoid any foods that could damage your appliance So, chewy, sticky, hard and foods that require you to bite into them are off the menu for a while. Things like popcorn, chips, chewing gum, nuts, corn and apples should be avoided.
Will I get sore?
When you first get your braces, you may notice your teeth feel a little tender and sore. This is normal and the pain will go away within a few days.
Can I still play sports with braces?
Absolutely! You can still play sport but wearing a mouthguard is recommended for contact sports to protect your teeth and appliance.
